This right here, is my happy place 🙋🏼‍♀️101 feet below the surface of the ocean with two very large and beautiful sea turtles doing their thing 🐢 Meet me here any day, any time!
West of the bustling beaches of Waikiki, lies a sunken vessel known as the Sea Tiger 🐯. This ship is a former Chinese trading vessel originally named Yun Fong Seong No. 303. It was confiscated in the early 1990's for carrying 90+ illegal immigrants into the state of Hawaii. Purchased by Voyager Submarines, then cleaned up and sank in 1999 as part of a dive enrichment effort, the Sea Tiger is 150-feet of incredible sights. The ship itself lies 80-110 feet below the surface, and during this particular dive, there was a strong current and poor visibility. Hopefully next time the conditions will be more calm 🤞
I love watching mutually symbiotic relationships occur in the wild. Here we see an example of a cleaning station. A green sea turtle parked it on the bow of this shipwreck to signal fish that it’s ok to nibble algae or parasites off its shell. They both benefit because turtle gets a cleaner shell, and the fish get free snack!
Koko Crater was literally less than a mile away from where we stayed on O’ahu in Hawai’i Kai... so basically it was tempting us each day when we woke up to go hike it 💪 ↪️ Fun Fact: Saw my first mongoose on the hike up! The mongoose is one of the most detested of these invaders of the Hawaiian islands. It has wreaked havoc on native birds on Maui, Oahu and Molokai for more than a century.
