Music To Your Ears

Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.
~Victor Hugo

Music is what feelings sound like.
~Author Unknown

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
~Berthold Auerbach

All deep things are song.  It seems somehow the very central essence of us, song; as if all the rest were but wrappages and hulls!
~Thomas Carlyle

Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.
~Ludwig van Beethoven

Without music life would be a mistake.
~Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

I felt like I haven’t done a music post in a while – and since “music is the art of the soul” -let’s get a little soulful shall we??

Music really is the language of the world. Everyone can find a song to express a mood, emotion, or any type of feeling they might be experiencing. It’s funny how so many memories are connected to certain songs in my life. They are like triggers of the mind – a flash of images pop up into my brain when a certain tune fills my ears.  I’m sure a lot of you can relate to that sensation as well.

It’s on my Bucket List to learn how to play either the drums or the bass. And now that I really think about it, those instruments are exactly like the heartbeat a song. They are the pulse of music. I’ve got a strong, giving, loving heart – and I think that reflects on the songs that really relate to my life.

Listed below are a couple of songs that trigger happy thoughts and feelings in my life at the moment. Hope you enjoy them 🙂 Feel free to share in a comment a song that you love right now!

Feist the Day

Science, Thoughts

One musician who has really struck a chord with me recently is Feist. Her name is actually “Leslie Feist”- she’s a Canadian singer/song writer. For some nice Sunday evening tunes, I will leave you with some of her great songs/lyrics.

I got a man to stick it out
And make a home from a rented house oh
And we’ll collect the moments one by one
I guess that’s how the future’s done oh

How many acres, how much light
Tucked in the woods and out of sight
Talk to the neighbours and tip my cap
On a little road barely on the map

Take it slow
Take it easy on me
And shed some light
Shed some light on me please
Take it slow
And shed some light
Shed some light on me please

No one likes to take a test
Sometimes you know more is less
Put your weight against the door
Kick drum on the basement floor
Stranded in a fog of words
Loved him like a winter bird
On my head the water pours
Gulf stream through the open door
Fly away
Fly away to what you want to make

AND of course I’ve got to throw in this great quote from Carl Sagan to feed my/your science fix for the weekend!

Let the Music Take Control

After silence,
that which comes nearest to expressing
the inexpressible is music. – Aldous Huxley

Music has always been a great place to escape no matter what kind of mood I’m in. When you think about it, there is just about a song for every situation you run into while you go through life- happiness, heartache, anger, sadness, inspiration, rage, and so on. Music has definitely helped me get through hard times, sad times, fun times, and crazy times. So today I dedicate this post to songs that make me feel good. Hope you’ve all had a wonderful week full of happiness, joy, and most of all love.

His voice is like butter…and this acoustic version of this song on the beach makes it even more beautiful.

GROUPLOVE- Tongue Tied
This is the song that makes me want to just jump up and down and dance to where ever I may be 🙂

When this tune comes on while I’m at the gym, I definitely get into a groove.

THE BLACK KEYS- Gold on the Ceiling
I’ve loved The Black Keys for a long time. This song triggers something in me- not sure what it is but I FEEL IT!

DEVOTCHKA- The Winner Is
This song is from the movie Little Miss Sunshine- which is a fantastic movie with a great message. It’s all instrumental- which is a nice change once in a while in my music library.

Her cover of this classic song is unique and beautiful. Her voice is so different from anything I’ve ever heard..

JUST JACK- Starz In Their Eyes
Thought I’d leave you with this final song- it’s a toe tapper that I get excited when it comes on when I’m on a good high while working out. There’s something about English “rappers” that I like way better than American ones.

What’s the top song in your life right now??

Pasadena Chalk Festival + Make Music Pasadena

Photography, Thoughts

This past weekend I ventured just a couple of miles away from my house to find the hustle and bustle of 1,000’s of people who took over Pasadena on Saturday June 16th, 2012!

Firstly- there was the 20th Annual Chalk Festival held at the Paseo Colorado Mall. Approximately over 600 artists gathered from Southern California to Pasadena for the 2 day festival of artistic chalk magic! I’d link you to the website, but it crashed since Sunday with an overwhelmingly large numbers of viewers. It’s estimated that over 100,000 people came to see these temporary art exhibits on the ground of the Paseo. My favorite was an Albert Einstein Time Magazine cover- which actually won an award!

Secondly- there was the 5th Annual Make Music Pasadena event on Saturday as well. I really don’t know why I had never attended this fantastic festival was too awesome to ever pass up again! There were over 150 free concerts all around walking distance in downtown Pasadena ranging across 6 main stages and over 30 impromptu stages. The only band I had really heard of before was GROUPLOVE which has a hit on the radio that I LOVE  at the moment 🙂 I’ll attach the video under the photo slideshow for your listening enjoyment. Multiple busy roads were closed down for this all day music event, and people came out from all over Southern California to see their favorite bands play for FREE! I had a blast and was happy to see all these new faces flock to Pasadena, my little bubble of a town.

“Smile, You’re Designed To”

I just wanted to share a quick little something to get off my chest….

I’m just really happy where my life is right now, and the people who are in it!!!

I knew this year was going to be different, but I didn’t know it was going to be so thrilling, eye-opening, and amazing.  I’ve learned a lot MORE about myself than I have ever imagined. I’ve also learned a lot about others, mostly by the actions they take compared to the words they speak to my face. It’s unfortunate, for them.

I entered to be on this TV Show the other evening. I wont tell you all the details yet…don’t want to jinx it- but it’s super exciting! Wish me luck 😉 Speaking of this- I asked my best friend to answer one of the questions on the survey which was : What would your best friend say is their favorite thing about you? Thought it was better actually coming out of the mouth of my friend instead of just guessing…This was her response..literally brought me to tears and inspired me to write this post. Love you Courtney!!!

“My favorite thing about you is your refusal to let anything get in way of what it is that you want out of life…be it a job, an experience, an adventure, no matter, you take initiative and see that it happens. The best part of being that you do it without compromising your character to fit other presupposed qualifications. And the fact that you achieve amazing things without losing who you really are in the process makes you one of a kind and an absolute reward for all those people lucky enough to encounter you.”

I also just found out some really GREAT news for some friends of’s a secret for now but once I’m allowed to share I won’t be able to hold it in EEEEEE!

Plus-if you read my last post- you will see that I just entered to do my first 5K marathon for children with Cancer and their families. I set a goal to raise $200.00 for the PADRES foundation- and I already succeeded in just 3 days! GLORIOUS! Now it’s time to go over and beyond my initial goal and keep raising money for these families who need our help.

I’m almost at 200 followers on my blog, and with close to 12,000 hits, I couldn’t be more pleased! Blogging is such a wonderful outlet and it connects me to people ALL OVER THE WORLD. On my statistics page, I am able to view which countries have looked at my blog. Some countries I haven’t even heard of before (’s wild)!! Makes me feel like my mark is being made worldwide.

I love my job. It is amazing to work with people who have really become my family over this past year…they all have a special place in my heart forever. I’m super lucky.

Speaking of family, even though sometimes we have our drama, there is no other family I’d rather be a part of. I’ve learned so much from all of you.

Just remember that life is great. Think positive, listen to your heart, and smile. 😀 Life could always be worse…it’s a roller coaster really- there are always ups and downs. Just remember enjoy the ride! Sorry if it sounds to cliché … but it really is the truth.

There is no need to be negative all the time. It doesn’t do well for yourself, or others around you. Happiness is a drug that everyone should get addicted to-it’s infectious.

Here are a couple of songs that always put me in a better mood! Have a great evening everyone!

Here is my musical update for today. I’m sure you’ve heard this song blasted all over the radio stations- and even featured on Glee. The band’s name is “ Fun. ” Their hit song is pretty much is a youth national anthem.

I just saw the music video for the first time today – it’s all in slow motion and super fantastic. Looks like it would been a blast to be in the video, but a pain in the butt to clean up afterwards  haha. You’ll see what I mean after you watch it. I also found an acoustic version of the song. Both their voices are strong and beautiful to listen to raw.

PS: On a random note- it’s National Margarita Day. GO HAVE A NICE COLD ONE TONIGHT 😀

It’s Music Friday!

So I feel like sharing some cool songs- and exposing some bands that I am really getting into at the moment. Sit back and enjoy a couple songs on your last couple of hours at work today 🙂

A Brooklyn native folk rock band. This band was one of the non-electrical bands to be signed to Warp Records. I just really love the beat and how well their voices harmonize together.

This band is opening up for the Incubus tour this year (which I am going to on October 7th at the Hollywood Bowl EEEE!). As one of my friends said just the other day while listening to this song, “His voice is so velvety smooth.” – And I concur!

Mumford and Sons is an up and coming British band. They have a “gutsy and old time sound” as stated on their website biography. I think his voice is super sexy..o yes I do. Their lyrics are fantastic as well- enjoy.

This Kentucky band was created in 2006. Apparently they are known for their high-energy live performances- guess that means I need to check them out for myself to see if that is true! 🙂 I really enjoy this song and totally turn it up when it comes on the radio and sing my little heart out.

Leaving the best music video for last. You’ll see what I mean. Passion Pit is an electropop band all the way from Massachusetts (say that five times fast). They definitely keep your foot tapping and head bopping.

I Want To Take A Ride On A Big Jet Plane

(Not a post about science or photography…more like music and feelings.)

I had a horrible sleep last night…and same thing happened the night before. Thus, I am not in the best mood this morning at work. I’m leaving tomorrow (through Monday) to go up to Monterey Bay to walk at my Commencement  Ceremony  at CSUMB on Saturday- I’m excited to go up and meet up with all my friends up there and my family and friends coming  for the occasion.  Basically-I am going to have a very long next 5 days.

I should go make another tea to boost my caffeine fix ASAP! Tea is so good to me 🙂

But on my car ride to work this morning, in the misty rain coldness outside, I played some Angus and Julia Stone musica. They are an Australian brother and sister duo that I LOVE! Their music is simple and beautiful- and that’s why I wanted to share some of their music videos with you today. Hope you have a great Tuesday. Be on the look out for lots of pictures and possible videos of my Commencement weekend! 🙂

Food Truck Festival + Awesome 80’s Cover Band!

So although this was about a month ago- I just realized that I haven’t uploaded any pictures of the event yet on here for your pretty eyes to gander at!

For my first off-site event working for Pasadena Entertainment (events and marketing company)- I was assigned to go to the Santa Anita Race Track 2nd Annual Food Truck Festival on April 2, 2011. I don’t know about other states, but California sure has BOOMED in the food truck market. My first experience was with the Grilled Cheese Truck when I went to visit my boyfriend for lunch in Beverly Hills. I had a Caprese Grilled Cheese- and it was delicious. Coincidently, the Grilled Cheese Truck was the MOST POPULAR at the festival, along with the Lobsta Truck. The line starting at 11am-5pm was at least 200 yards long the WHOLE entire time. There were about 76 food trucks in total…that’s a lot of options. Thousands of people came out to the event- so of course the 3rd Food Truck Festival is coming up again this month on May 14th.

I managed the M-80’s band that was performing at one end of track, while my co-worker managed the other band, Gee Mack, on the other side of the track. The M-80’s were super awesome-and a great group of guys! They played 80’s cover music and got everyone to start dancing (especially those little kiddos).

I had a blast- hope you enjoy these pictures!
